Sometimes the best method for removing spiders and keeping them away is as simple as changing a few things around your home. It might not even be necessary to use spider repellent or traps. Altering your cleaning habits, and doing some home repairs can go a long way in controlling a spider problem.
Where Spiders Are Found
Spiders tend to like dark places that are not disturbed very often. Another important factor for a spider in deciding its home will be
how much food it can catch. They usually feed on insects, so anywhere bugs get trapped is a probable location to find a spider. The reason why you will often find spiders hanging around window seals, is because flying bugs always end up there. Other common locations inside homes will be under furniture, ceiling corners, under beds, in closets.
The goal should be to make these locations less friendly for spiders. If you simply kill or remove the spider from this area, you will likely find that a new spider moves in. If the conditions there were good enough for one spider, chances are they will be good enough for another.
Keep a Clean Home
Keeping your home clean is the easiest way to deal with a spider problem. Spiders do not like their webs or homes to be constantly disturbed. If they are, chances are they will not stay there. Vacuuming, dusting, moving furniture, and just keeping a tidy home in general will go a long way to remove spiders. Frequently cleaning your window sills is also an excellent idea. You will also have less insects inside of your home. Without bugs, spiders will have nothing to eat. They will either die of starvation, or leave to a better location.
Seal Your Entrances
Another thing you should do is make sure you have no cracks in windows or doors. Somehow these spiders are making their way into your home. You will never be able to completely stop them from entering, but you should do your best to make sure all entrances are sealed. It will also stop other insects from entering also. Again, this is the food source for spiders that they need to survive. It is a good idea to replace torn window screening and garage door bottom seals. Crawl spaces under homes are another well known spot for spiders to live in. Placing a few spider traps down there might be a good idea.
